I once read a story about a woman where everything in her life was falling apart. When she went to her mother and told her all her troubles the mother did not say a word; but got up and put three pots of water on to boil. In each pot she put one item each in one she filled it with carrots and another with eggs and the third she filled with coffee grounds. Many people consider Baltimore to be sort of a “blue collar” town, and maybe not one of the most romantic places they can think of. Well I disagree, there are many romantic locations in this city, or ones that you can turn into romantic places for the right occasion. Obviously if you are proposing, that is a romantic occasion, and if you live around Baltimore there are many places you can do it at. Keep in mind some of the biggest attributes Baltimore has: its location, its food, and its sports teams.

As far as location goes, you sort of have a few options. Do you want to use a romantic sunset over the water as part of your proposal? If so then you should go to the Inner Harbor area, there are quite a few options. You could go from the extremely basic and just drop to one knee right in front of the docks and propose overlooking the Inner Harbor at sunset. Or if you want to make it a little more involved, how about going out on one of the boats that either do dinner cruises or just go for a ride on the water and propose while you are on the boat? Of course the water is not the only attraction around Baltimore which you could propose at. How about in front of the Bromo Seltzer Tower (to those that don’t know what it is, it’s the giant clock many times you see in shots on television behind the sports stadiums. There’s always the historic areas of Federal Hill, Mount Vernon, and Canton. All of these areas have some beautiful buildings to propose in front of.
Maybe you are looking for something a little more extravagant than just proposing in front of a building or the Inner Harbor. Maybe you would like to do it at a romantic dinner in the city? Of course there are many options you have then. There are numerous chain restaurants you can choose from including some like Ruth Chris or Babalu Grill (for that island theme) in Powerplant Live in Baltimore. One of my favorite places some don’t think of though is Louisiana Restaurant in Fells Point. Most go to Fells Point for their bars, but they do have some very nice restaurants and Louisiana is my favorite for a romantic setting. It has nice dark woods decorating the restaurant and has a very nice wine list to choose from. Overall the theme of the restaurant is a combination of steak and creole, with many entrees you won’t find at other Baltimore restaurants. The prices are a little higher than what you might expect, but that is not uncommon in the Fells Point area.

Of course one of the other things Baltimore is known for is it’s sports teams. The Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles both have stadiums that are landmarks for local residents. Camden Yards (the Orioles home stadium) opened in the early 90’s, and Ravens Stadium opened late in the decade. Both are visible just as you enter the city through most of the major highways. Both teams have large video display systems and have “proposal offering packages” which they will construct for you if you contact the teams directly. They are custom packages and you can choose from items including tickets, a suite (if you wish to pay a large amount of money), and to have your proposal either put on the announcement board during the game, or on the video screen, and if you wish they will even draw everyone’s attention to it as you prepare to propose, or if you prefer they will just announce it after the proposal itself. If you think your partner you are proposing to would enjoy a public proposal you can’t do any better than a nice summer evening or early fall afternoon at one of these landmark stadiums.

In the end, of course it doesn’t matter where you propose. Once your proposal is accepted you will remember the love and your future together as the years go on more than the proposal itself. Of course though everyone will want to know how you proposed, so in the end if you choose one of the above locations you will be able to solicit that “oh how romantic” reaction from the audience as you tell your story.
